District Infrastructure Replacement Projects
Beginning in 2025, the Green Mountain Water & Sanitation District Board of Directors implemented a Infrastructure Replacement Fee (IRF). The IRF is designed to generate dedicated funding for District Infrastructure Replacement Projects (DIRP).
The primary goal of the DIRP is to replace or rehabilitate aging water and sanitary infrastructure that has reached the end of its useful life. Through these projects, the District ensures the continued reliability and efficiency of its water and sanitation services.
This fee provides the financial resources necessary for comprehensive replacement and rehabilitation efforts. By addressing infrastructure needs proactively, the District aims to avoid costly and disruptive emergency repairs in the future.
It is important to note that the IRF is intended solely for replacing or rehabilitating existing infrastructure as it ages, not for expanding system capacity to accommodate growth. Any upgrades required to serve new development are funded by the developer.
The map below provides a detailed overview of the water infrastructure, categorized by the expected lifespan of the pipes:
- Red: Indicates pipes that have reached their end-of-life range. These sections are critical and may require immediate repair or replacement to maintain the reliability of the water supply system.
- Orange: Marks pipes that will reach their end-of-life range within the next five years. These areas are closely monitored and scheduled for future replacement to prevent potential failures.
- Blue: Represents pipes currently in good condition. While no immediate action is needed, regular inspections and maintenance are performed to ensure continued integrity.
